Responsible gambling

Keep it fun. We mean it. 18+

Our commitment

The OITC Weekly Lottery exists to fund rugby community programmes, and it only works — for you and for us — if it stays what it is meant to be: a pound a week of light-hearted support for a cause you care about. We would genuinely rather you stopped playing than played beyond your means. No draw, no prize and no fundraising target matters more than that.

That commitment shapes how the lottery is run: the entry price is capped at £1, we limit the number of entries per player, we never use pressure or urgency in our marketing, and we make stopping as easy as starting.

Age restriction — 18 or over, always

Every part of the lottery — buying an entry, holding a subscription, claiming a prize — is restricted to people aged 18 or over who are resident in Great Britain. You confirm your age when you enter, and we verify age and identity before any prize is paid.

If an entry is found to have been made by someone under 18, it is void: the stake is returned, no prize is paid, and any subscription is cancelled. If you are concerned that someone under 18 has entered, contact us at community@ospreysrugby.com and we will investigate.

Staying in control

Practical tools, all available just by asking:

  • Set a budget first. Decide what the lottery is worth to you per month before you enter, and treat it like any other subscription — not like an investment.
  • Spend limits. We cap entries per player, and you can ask us to hold you to a lower personal limit at any time.
  • Take a break. Ask us to pause your entries for any period — a fortnight, a season — and nothing is charged while you are away.
  • Cancel a subscription. One email to community@ospreysrugby.com, effective before the next draw once received by the entry cut-off. No questions, no retention scripts.
  • Close your account. Ask and we will close it, cancel entries and confirm in writing.

Self-exclusion

Self-exclusion is stronger than taking a break: it is a commitment we enforce for you. Email community@ospreysrugby.com or write to us asking to self-exclude, and we will:

  • cancel your active entries and any subscription immediately;
  • refuse any new entries from you for the exclusion period;
  • stop all lottery marketing to you; and
  • confirm the exclusion in writing, including when and how it ends — exclusion runs for a minimum of six months and does not end automatically without a cooling-off conversation.

GAMSTOP. GAMSTOP (gamstop.co.uk) is the free national self-exclusion scheme covering online gambling operators licensed by the Gambling Commission in Great Britain. As a small society lottery registered with the local licensing authority, this lottery is not covered by GAMSTOP — the charity’s own self-exclusion process above is the route for this lottery, and we link GAMSTOP as a wider tool covering online gambling generally.

Blocking tools. Gamban (gamban.com) blocks gambling sites and apps on your devices, and most major UK banks now offer a gambling block on their cards — a setting in your banking app that declines gambling transactions. Both work well alongside self-exclusion.

Signs it may be becoming a problem

Gambling harm builds quietly. It may be time to pause and talk to someone if you notice yourself:

  • spending more than you planned, or topping up entries you did not budget for;
  • chasing losses or seeing the lottery as a way to fix money worries;
  • hiding your play from family or friends;
  • borrowing money to play;
  • playing to escape stress or low mood;
  • feeling anxious, irritable or guilty about playing.

None of these means judgement from us — they mean support. The organisations below help hundreds of thousands of people every year, free and in confidence.

Protecting people at risk

If a family member or friend raises a concern about a player’s wellbeing, we take it seriously: we will review the account, offer the tools above, and where appropriate suspend entries while we talk to the player. We never market the lottery to anyone who has self-excluded or asked us to stop, and our marketing contains no content designed to appeal to under-18s or pressure anyone into playing.

Complaints about the lottery

If you think we have fallen short of anything on this page, tell us: email community@ospreysrugby.com with “Complaint” in the subject line. Our complaints process — including escalation to an independent ADR provider where a Gambling Commission licence applies — is set out in the lottery terms and on the contact page.
